It was a wild night – wild game was consumed for dinner, wild apparel was worn by the guests and those in attendance are known to be wild about hometown high school football.

Sam and Ann Logan of Major Market hosted a ‘Wild Game Dinner’ on Saturday evening, March 7, for the first 50 donors to the ‘Buy a Jersey; Get a Warrior’ football fundraiser program designed to raise funds for badly needed new uniforms for the Fallbrook High School football team.

“It was a beautiful evening and [Sam and I] were just thrilled to be a part of it and to entice people to step up and give to this event to supporting our high school kids,” Ann Logan said.

The ‘wild’ feast, prepared by Major Market executive chef Salvatore Petrolino, featured delicacies like roasted pheasant, seared wild scallops, roasted loin of elk and wild American shrimp.

Guests to the dinner were encouraged to wear ‘wild’ animal prints and other ‘dress to kill’ apparel to add to the theme.

Details about the fundraiser and the opportunity to donate have been available for the past few weeks at Major Market.

Fans can participate in the endeavor by making a $250 tax-deductible donation toward the uniforms. In turn, he or she will receive a football jersey with the number (10 through 99) of their choice and their name listed as a Jersey Sponsor in the 2009 football program.

“We have $12,500 so far [toward the jerseys],” Ann Logan said. “Our goal is 30 more, at $250 each, which equals $7,800.”

Logan is determined to help the team raise the money, since funds for uniforms are not made available by the high school district. “They are not funded anymore,” she said.

When the fundraiser was kicked off, football coach Joe Silvey said, “I know our players will take great pride in wearing these new jerseys in the fall and in representing their school and their town.”

“It’s my opinion that when you look good, you play good,” Logan said.

Community members wishing to participate in the fundraiser can visit Major Market in Fallbrook at 845 South Main Avenue or contribute by mail to: Fallbrook Football Boosters, PO Box 2645, Fallbrook, CA 92088.
